Gesture Cube

No need to touch just give it a wave!

Just wave your hand to access music, web, your family and friends. You don´t even need to touch the surface.
Gesture Cube uses 3D spatial movement tracking to help transform navigating a device into a magical intuitive experience. The underlying GestIC® technology detects your hand´s approach and movements – your favorite apps and media all at a wave of your hand.

The Gesture Cube …
..is not just technology for techs sake. It is thoughtfully designed and deeply rooted in a genuine understanding of consumers expectations and needs. We have explored the possibilities of 3D technology to craft a product experience that is so intuitive its almost magical. Using natural gestures to control our electronics helps to draw them closer to our natural behaviour, making things easier and more fun. The result is an intelligent product concept with unlimited possibilities for enhancing daily life with effortless interaction. The Gesture Cube´s design is simple yet so beautiful it doubles as a sculptural icon in your living space.

Technology
GestIC® electric field sensing technology makes 3D spatial hand or finger movement tracking possible. GestIC® detects movements and distances in 3D space and provides the technical backbone for Gesture Cube´s 3D user interface. GestIC® enables touchfree three-dimensional gesture control on 2D screens from mobile phones, tablet PCs, picture frames and MP3 players all the way to 3D devices like Gesture Cube. Let Gesture Cube inspire you!

comments are quite right.. its not very intuitive.
besides that, whats the special thing?
NOT touching the surface actually makes it harder to use due to missing tactile feedback. even the gestures are similar to the ones used on multitouch screens.

    As a proof of …
As a proof of concept its really interesting but I’m not sure why anyone would want something that they have to cart from room to room. As far as a media device the screen seems wrong set-up and too small for video/ movies, too bulky for a music controller (ipod touch/droid) and we already have e-picture frames. It just doesn’t seem very utilitarian enough for me, but I dig the fake music.

    Completely stupid. …
Completely stupid. What’s the point of all the sides? And they say it’s intuitive. How is sliding the side of your hand along the edge of the cube to change volume intuitive? How do you intuitively know that that’s how you change the volume? Why not a volume slider?

You will use the cube for what? Photos? Recipes? Music? What more this little box do? Just to impressing friends how rick you are. Come on, you can even read a book nor navigate on internet easily. I prefer the unfinished ipad for while and lets try to do real technology and not one a thing to make people be impressed!

That is great. So, do all those effects have to be applied on a computer on top of that green cube? Yeah! i mean, just sit there and pretend that your green screen cube actually does something and then later apply the effects on your computer and whatch it actually happen! SWEET!!!

Is that a made up song? I can’t find it, I love the synth-like marimba and the breakbeat it pretty awesome!

  • anoteoftruth says:

    I think “stuff” …
I think “stuff” like this would be cool… but this perticular concept is not very comfortable.. the gestures would have to be refined a lot more.. for instance, to play music.. I dont see why my hands need to move a incredible amount just to hit play, volume, pause.. like touching one side of the cube to select music, the other to play, a corner to pause… it’s more novel than functional. I have a lot of ideas about how to make it much more intuitive.
